OAKLAND GARDENS — One home was burglarized and another was the site of an attempt within one block of each other last Thursday, according to authorities.
Police said a home on the 64th Avenue block of 228th Street and another on 229th Street were targeted at around the same time last week.
Authorities said they believed the first home to be hit was a house on 228th Street near 64th Avenue, which was burglarized after someone broke into the rear door of the building between 5:40 a.m. and 7 a.m. The victim’s home was found ransacked and an unknown amount of gold and diamond jewelry was taken, police said.
A short time later, police said one or more perpetrators were seen attempting to pry open the side door of a home on 229th Street, just a block away. No one gained entry, police said.
Police said witnesses saw the suspect flee in a maroon Saturn with tinted windows.
Authorities said it was not clear if the cases are related, but said no arrests have been made as of Tuesday and the investigation is ongoing.
