This year was a roller coaster ride for everyone, from swings in the economy, to the historic presidential election, to the Giants winning the Super Bowl. Some of it was fun. Much of it continues to be of grave concern, here and internationally. I am hopeful that 2009 brings with it peace and prosperity for all.
Queens Library invites everyone in the community to take full advantage of free library resources, for job searches, to help with schoolwork, for useful information on just about everything, or simply for a free movie, music program or good book with which to relax. We have computers for your use, and we can teach you how to use them. Use our free wireless internet. Join a book discussion, exercise or needlework group.
Just drop in and read the newspaper for a while.
Recently, Mayor Bloomberg released the NYC Feedback Citywide Customer Survey at the Forest Hills Community Library. It is a report on how satisfied our city’s residents are with 24 city-funded services. More people in Queens said they used their public library than in any other borough. And, we are thrilled that Queens Library received an approval rating (average index score) of almost 93 percent! That’s the third highest rating of all city-funded services. Every age group, every income group, every neighborhood uses their libraries and gives them high scores. This survey affirms what we have always known - people in Queens use their library and deeply appreciate the ways in which we enrich lives in every community across the borough. Now more than ever, we need our libraries open and accessible to all.
Whatever the New Year holds in store, Queens Library will be here to support your every success. I wish everyone in Queens a very bright 2009.
