Bayside machine-gun bust

A 56-year-old Bayside man is looking at 25 years in prison after getting stopped for going through a red light – but that was just the beginning, as cops noticed pills in his car and a search uncovered an arsenal in his home.

On Wednesday, May 6 at about 10:30 a.m., Ioannis “John” Glezelis, of 28-61 Corporal Kennedy Street, was stopped by cops from the 111th Precinct, when they saw his 2008 Mercedes Benz go through the traffic light at 35th Avenue and the Clearview Expressway.

According to a spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, police observed nine pills “in the driver’s side door,” which were identified as Hydrocodone, the generic name for Vicodin.

Based on this discovery, NYPD Queens North Narcotics detectives obtained a search warrant for Glezelis’ home.

They found “dozens of pills, including Xanax, Vicodin and Oxycodone,” according to the DA’s spokesperson.

They also found 11 firearms and “858 loose rounds of ammunition,” the spokesperson said.

Police cataloged the firearms as “three Mac-11 9mm automatic weapons equipped with silencers;” two .45 caliber black powder pistols; two .380 semi-automatic handguns; one .44 Magnum handgun; one .32 caliber revolver; one .22 caliber revolver and one 12-gauge shotgun.

The MAC-11 (Military Armament Corporation Model 11) is a scaled-down version of the MAC-10. Some versions fire a .380 rather than a 9mm bullet.

This is not the first time Glezelis has been involved with weapons, according to records.

In April of 1992, using the name “John,” he was convicted of a weapons possession charge that could have landed him in prison for 15 years. According to the DA’s spokesperson, he was sentenced to five years probation on May 29, 1992.

Glezelis is currently free on $250,000 bail and due back in court on Monday, June 8. He faces multiple charges of weapons possession and sale as well as drug charges.
