New Lux Italian Restaurant Opens

A friend told me with pride in her voice that her son-in-law had joined a group to open Oevo, an Italian restaurant in Great Neck, just a few blocks east of Little Neck on Northern Boulevard.

I did expect a great meal because I knew Ciro Verde, chef/owner/partner, had appeared on the Food Network and at top restaurants in Manhattan.

The location has had many restaurants but I think this one is a winner!

We were greeted by a beautiful hostess who took us to a well-spaced table in the center of the room. There is a huge glass window in the rear looking into the sparkling kitchen. There is also a private dining room that looks like it can accommodate a small party of up to 50 people.

We began our meal with a treat from their wood-burning oven — a crusty personal pizza served as an appetizer. Next, we had perfectly grilled octopus served with balsamic vinegar. We also had a succulent sautéed artichoke cooked to just the right tenderness. There are 15 other choices that can please any appetite.

As a second course we had the homemade penne served with a classic ground veal sauce. We skipped the salad, but on the menu there are Classic Caesar as well as mescaline hearts of palm with olives, tomatoes, asparagus and plentiful shaved Parmesan cheese.

For our main course, we were treated to the chef’s specialty – a delicious chicken, roasted in the wood-burning oven, thereby enhancing the flavors, over a plentiful assortment of roasted vegetables and potatoes. Delicious! My husband had perfectly- cooked, chunky, juicy lamb chops served with a scrumptious mashed potato.

Leaving room for dessert is a must. There are several choices. My favorite one was the creamy cheesecake with raspberry sauce. There is even a fresh fruit platter featuring the ripest, juiciest fruits of the season.

The service was attentive but not hovering, and my water glass was filled without needing to remind the waiter!

A real Italian feast. Oevo is sure to be very successful.

Try it, you’ll love it.
