Career Kick-Off event

 University College, the adult undergraduate degree program of Adelphi University, is sponsoring “Career Kick-Off,” a networking event and seminars for 21-and-overs with a high school education or more.

The free event will take place on Wednesday, August 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Adelphi’s Ruth S. Harley University Center, located at 1 South Avenue in Garden City.

Participants will have the opportunity to network with members of the Adelphi community, as well as other area representatives from employment services. The keynote, “The Long Island Job Market, Growing/Shrinking Career Fields,” will be delivered by a representative from employment agency Adecco.

Other partners include the Long Island Works Coalition, MetLife/Northwest Financial Group, and the New York State Department of Labor.

Approximately 200 attendees are expected, and the registration deadline is Monday, August 17.

Computer Classes

On Friday, August 14 at 10 and 11 a.m., Baisley Park Library will present Basic Computer Classes. Basic computer instruction for adults: mouse, windows, the Web. Must have library card. The library is located at 117-11 Sutphin Boulevard. For more info, call 718-529-1590.

On Friday, August 14 at 11 a.m., Auburndale Library will present Basic Computer Lessons. For adult beginners, a one-on-one, half-hour tutoring session. Limit three sessions per day, one session per person, by appointment only. Sign up for 11 or 11:30 a.m. or noon sessions. The library is located at 25-55 Francis Lewis Boulevard. On Monday, August 17 at 6 p.m., Arverne Library will present One-on-One Computer Classes. Whether you are a beginner interested in email and Internet basics, or a skilled user looking to pick up some new tricks, our one-on-one computer classes are available Monday nights at 6 p.m. and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. The library is located at 312 Beach 54th Street. On Tuesday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m., Glen Oaks Library will present Computer Basics for Adults. A 2-session workshop for adults with little or no computer skills, to learn the basics of computers. On Tuesday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m., St. Albans Library will present Introduction to Computer Basics. Come learn how to log on and off the computer, use the keyboard and mouse, open and close windows and use various software applications. Preregistration and a Queens Library card are required.
