Deacon Joseph Campisi needs your help – and so do the people of Appalachia.
The Howard Beach resident, a deacon for 25 years, has been traveling to Kentucky with the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) to help some of the country’s poorest people.
He and teams of other good-hearted volunteers build houses, provide some everyday necessities – such as running water – and truly touch the lives of those they help.
This year, his 13th, Campisi will make the nearly 800-mile trip on August 22, but he needs your assistance – and donations.
So far, he said, he has collected about $1,400 from the Rotary, St. Virgilius, where he serves as deacon, and even Ace Hardware.
“The people of Howard Beach are very generous,” said Joseph and his wife Gloria.
So the couple is asking that you dig deep, despite the economy, and donate.
“His main focus is the families and their children – their many needs,” Gloria told The Courier. “His promise has always been, ‘From your hands, to his hands, to their hands.’”
She continued, “Any donation you can afford – no amount is too small – the money he brings to Kentucky is prayed over before it is put to use for these grateful people.”
Donations, which are tax deductible, can be sent to The Courier, care of Tonia N. Cimino, 38-15 Bell Boulevard Bayside, NY 11361.
Please make checks or money orders out to the Christian Appalachian Project.
There will also be a donation jar at New Beginnings on Cross Bay Boulevard.
Additionally, for those who would like to volunteer their time, there will be an information session on Friday, August 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the doctor’s office located at 133-55 Lefferts Boulevard. There is ample street parking.
