A new Comprehensive Care Management (CCM) site in Ridgewood marked the organization’s 17th facility and the first Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Center in Queens.
CCM, which is a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, serves New York City, Westchester and Long Island. It “enables many people who would otherwise require nursing home placement to stay safely in their community for as long as possible and receive high quality, comprehensive care,” according to its literature.
“Having on-site medical care and therapeutic recreation in one facility is a huge benefit for the elderly,” said Karen Humphrey, the Director of the CCM Ridgewood site. “From doctors and nurses to stimulating social activities and deliciously-prepared food, people from the community have everything they need under one roof.”
Among the services that CCM provides are care management; nursing home, home, and adult day health care; personal emergency response system; non-emergency transportation; physical, occupational and speech therapy; nutrition and home delivered or congregate meals, among others.
Another component of CCM’s service is providing social and recreation activities for its members.
“We take care of the people who can’t take care of themselves,” said Katherine Miller McCarthy, CCM’s Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
Michael Fassler, the President and CEO of Beth Abraham, said that it is CCM’s teamwork and coordination of care that make it special. He also noted that it works with the communities it serves.
“We look forward to much success here,” he said during a September 24 ribbon cutting ceremony.
CCM Vice President of Clinical Operations Mia Etienne explained that the organization has brought a very experienced staff to the Ridgewood location. She also described the opening of the newest site as “one of the best days in our history.”
“This is really a very, very special day for us and for this community,” Etienne said. She continued, “You will not find better care than what we have to offer. We’re looking forward to servicing this community and being part of this community.”
The Ridgewood site officially opened in May of this year. Although CCM has an administrative office in Flushing, this is the first full site in Queens. Another full site is expected to open in Flushing in 2010.
Humphrey said that the goals for the new site are to continue to engage members, offer resources and give back to the community. McCarthy also said that they will work on letting others, including providers, know that they are there.
