Weprin wins his brother’s seat

State Assemblyman Mark Weprin (D-Little Neck) handily defeated Bob Friedrich in the race to replace his brother, City Councilman David Weprin (D-Hollis), Tuesday, according to unofficial results reported by NY1.

Weprin, a Democrat, received 16,036 votes, or 67.4 percent, while Friedrich, a registered Democrat running on the Republican ticket, garnered 7,151 votes, or 30.05 percent, according to unofficial results from NY1. Richard Burns, a Conservative, landed 607 votes, or 2.55 percent.

Weprin will represent District 23, which includes Fresh Meadows, Queens Village, Little Neck, Hollis Hills, Douglaston, Bayside, Bellerose, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Hollis, Hollis Park Gardens and Holliswood.

Peter Koo, a Republican, beat his Democratic opponent, Yen Chou, to fill Councilman John Liu’s (D-Flushing) seat representing Flushing, Queensboro Hill, Mitchell Gardens, Kissena Park, Harding Heights, Auburndale and parts of Whitestone.

Koo landed 8,081votes, or 49.6percent, while Chou received 7,278 votes, or 44.67 percent. SJ Jung, a Democrat who ran on the Working Families party, had 664 votes, or 4.08 percent.
