108th PRECINCT
Richard E. Contreras, 28, of Greenpoint Avenue in Long Island City, has been arraigned on charges relating to the hit-and-run death of a delivery man.
The incident happened on Friday February 12 on the westbound Long Island Expressway service road at 39th Street.
Police say Jiangiu Chen, 52, of Elmhurst, was riding a motor scooter when he was struck by a 2004 Black Ford Explorer that fled the scene. Chen was taken to Bellevue Hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced dead.
A short time later, patrol officers from the 108th Precinct observed the vehicle at Greenpoint Avenue and Bradley Avenue. The officers stopped the vehicle and Contreras was taken into custody. He was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, leaving scene accident resulting in death and driving while intoxicated.
