The Center for the Women of New York is helping to present a conference on sex trafficking at Queens Borough Hall March 2.
The conference, held at 7:15 p.m. in Room 213, will focus on sex trafficking in Queens and the city with a particular focus on advertising in local community newspapers that CWNY founder Ann Jawin said is a front for prostitution.
The event will also be sponsored by the Queens chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America.
Jawin will moderate the event and panelists include Anthony Communiello, chief of the special proceedings bureau at the Queens district attorney’s office; Elissa Brown, a St. John’s University psychology professor; state Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D-Flushing); and other advocates working against sex trafficking in Queens.
Event organizers said Queens, with two international airports, is a gateway for the exploitation of young women who are victims of trafficking.
