As a lifelong Astoria resident, I am concerned about the proposed demapping of 36th Street. The proposal would close the street to both traffic and the public in order to expand Kaufman Studios.
The area is already congested with traffic and this proposal would only increase the amount of vehicles and traffic in the area. This increase would make the parking situation in the area worse and lead to increased pollution.
In addition, the proposal would demap a public street for the sole purpose of helping a private entity and serves no public purpose. I encourage Community Board 1 to oppose this project.
