Immigration law is his specialty

At a time when immigration law is at it’s most challenging, it helps to have a professional in your corner.

Located in the Clock tower at 29-27 41st Avenue in Long Island City, the law office of Usman B. Ahmad is a full-service immigration law firm that provides legal services for immigrant and non-immigrant visas, corporate and business immigration, lawful permanent residence (green card), deportation/removal defense and citizenship/naturalization. There are six different languages spoken in the office to better communicate with clients from different backgrounds.

Ahmad has been practicing law for the past 10 years and has well over 7,500 clients. He said he spends the majority of his time in and out of immigration court and has seen the law change dramatically post-9/11. The laws are constantly changing and it has become incredibly complicated. These days, the application fees have quadrupled, only a minor error like the misspelling of someone’s name could double the application process and if you miss a deadline, you often have to start all over again.

“A lot of people try to file their own application and while it is designed for people to do themselves, it can be a very lengthy process and it’s not a bad idea to have a consultation with an immigration lawyer first,” said Ahmad.

All initial consultations with Ahmad are free, and his office includes two billing managers who work out a reasonable payment plan with clients.

While 80 percent of the cases Ahmad takes on are directly related to immigration law, he also handles bankruptcy and over $50 million of property through real estate law every year, representing both sellers and purchasers of single and multi-family homes, condominiums and co-ops.

The office has helped hundreds of first-time homeowners. Ahmad also helps people facing foreclosures, advising homeowners of their rights and to remain calm and strategize. It is a long process and it can take a bank up to two years to sign off on it. During that time, families can remain in their house and save money or apply for a loan modification. They don’t have to move out right away, and even banks would rather you keep your home. Ahmad explains the entire process and time frame to his clients.
