Perfume stolen in aluminum-lined bag: DA

ELMHURST — A 46-year-old Woodside woman was arraigned on charges of petit larceny, possession of a burglar’s tools and criminal possession of stolen property for allegedly stealing perfume from the Queens Center Mall’s JCPenney store via an aluminum-lined bag, the Queens district attorney’s office said.

Elaine Savas, of Laurel Hill Boulevard near 65th Street, allegedly took four bottles of perfume from store shelves at the department store at 92-59 59th Ave. Feb. 1, then walked out of the store without paying for them, the DA said.

When the store security officer apprehended her, he allegedly found the items in Savas’ coat and in her “booster bag,” a name for a bag lined with aluminum so it is not picked up by security equipment, the DA said.
