Nine years in prison for woman who hit 2 men: DA

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS — A Long Island woman who smoked crack, drove and hit two men in a construction zone in Spring Gardens has been sentenced to nine years in prison and five years supervision post-release, the Queens district attorney’s office said.

Yolanda Silvera, 29, of Malverne, L.I., pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in February, the DA said. She was driving near the intersection of Rockaway Boulevard and 150th Street in the evening of Aug. 13, 2009, and was arguing with David Kruger, a passenger in the car, when she struck the two men, sending one of them flying over the hood of her car, the DA said.

One man, 36, received trauma to his face and had to have his leg amputated, the DA said. The other man, 35, had injuries that have required multiple surgeries, the DA said.

Kruger, who lives on Fowler Street in Bellmore, L.I., pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, in 2010, the DA said. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 21, the DA said.
