Mount Sinai Queens Blood Drive

On Thursday, June 30, Mount Sinai will hold its bi-annual blood drive with a goal of reaching 1,300 pints.

The drive will take place at Mount Sinai Queens, 25-10 30th Avenue in Astoria between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. All between the ages of 16 and 76 that weigh 110 pounds and have not received tattoos in the past year are welcome. Make sure to eat well and drink plenty of fluids before donating.

Gas prices fall below $4 in the city

Gas prices have snuck below the four dollar for the first time in months.

Prices at the pump are down five cents in the past week and over 16 cents since the beginning of the month, according to AAA. President Barack Obama announced last week plans to release 60 million barrels from oil reserves with the goal of bringing gas prices down for the summer driving season.

Drivers are still paying more than a dollar more per gallon than they were at this time last year.

Nationally, gas prices have fell more than eight cents in the past week to $3.565.
