Three Queens residents will now be helping provide the soundtrack to city commutes as part of the MTA Arts for Transit’s Music Under New York (MUNY) program.
For more than 25 years, MUNY has been “presenting quality music to the commuting public” through more than 150 weekly performances at 25 different transit locations.
Last month, 68 acts auditioned for a panel of judges to earn a spot in the program. Of those, 19 were accepted, including three acts from Queens.
Representing Queens will be improvisational cellist Mike Lunapiena of Woodside, saxophonist Ron Service of Flushing and Motown/R&B duo The Connections of Ridgewood.
The other newly selected acts are opera singer Marcella Louise Adame; country singer Harold Allen; group Brazilian Quarter; singer, songwriter and guitarist Lindsay Dragan; Baroque harpist Meta Joy Epstein; contemporary and classical harpist Erik Hegar; Italian mandolin player Keizo Ishibashi; singer, songwriter and guitarist Tom Larsen; Lost Wandering Blues & Jazz Band; Metro Brass Quintet; female a capella group MetropoliTones; classical and Argentinean guitarist Eric Reimers; Afro-beat jazz ensemble The Body Electric; oboe trio Threeds; electro improvisation artist Matt Vorzimer: eCussionist; and contemporary and traditional singer Christopher Worth.
There are currently more than 350 groups and solo performers who participate in MUNY. They conduct about 7,500 performances each year.
