JAMAICA JAMS FESTIVAL: The sights and sounds of summer fun

Downtown Jamaica will once again come alive with music and culture as its annual festival linking the arts with business celebrates 15 years of outdoor summer fun.
The Jamaica Arts, Music & Summer (JAMS) Festival, a fun-filled family oriental festival, kicks off in Rufus King Park and runs from August 5 through August 6 – more than 150,000 people are expected to be in attendance.
Festivities begin on Friday, August 5 with an array of talented emerging artists selected by the community.
Opening night will also feature the Bill Jacobs Big Band, who will get everyone grooving and jumpstart the JAMS Under the Stars Concert.
The entertainment and fun continues on Saturday, August 6 with musical talent, visual arts, free rides and activities for children, a car exhibit and a farmers market. Also, over 450 multicultural vendors will be present offering a mixed bag of delicious foods and cultural oriented merchandise.
The JAMS Festival provides increased tourism and economic prosperity for Jamaica and Queens at large. Some of the main themes of this festival include going green and health consciousness. These are two key factors in having a clean society and a healthy community – and it is a lesson that all residents can benefit from.
Jamaica JAMS is made possible by the support of numerous neighborhood organizations and individuals.
