Jamaica man gets 23 years for 2008 rape

KEW GARDENS — A Jamaica man was sentenced last week to 23 years to life in prison for the 2008 rape of a woman he also robbed, according to the Queens district attorney’s office.

In August 2008, Gentl E. Bonds, 23, of 133-31 127th St. approached an 18-year-old woman who was at an ATM near the corner of 103rd Avenue and 123rd Street in Richmond Hill, the DA said.

Bonds pressed a gun up to the woman’s head, forced her behind a nearby house and raped her, the DA said.

He then robbed her of the cash she withdrew, the DA said.

Bonds had previously been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the robbery with relation to the incident, according to the DA, before being sentenced for the rape Oct. 5.

“Today’s sentence is more than justified, as it is necessary in order to protect society from this individual who has proven himself to be a danger to the public,” Queens DA Richard Brown said. “There is no room in a civilized society for predators such as this defendant.”
