FLUSHING — An investigation into a Flushing physician’s dubious business practices led to the first indictment for the newly created Prescription Drug Investigation Unit of the city’s special narcotics prosecutor’s office.
Stan Xuhui Li, a New Jersey resident who operates the Medical Pain Management clinic at 132-59 41st Road, was arrested at the clinic Saturday and charged with criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance and reckless endangerment, according to Special Narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan’s office.
The indictment followed a year-long investigation in which Li was allegedly found to have illegally sold prescriptions for multiple controlled substances, including oxycodone and Xanax, to a Queens resident who overdosed at least two times and ultimately died of an overdose in November, the prosecutor’s office said.
Community members and patients’ relatives told authorities that Li was selling medically unnecessary prescriptions and authorities observed patients selling pills in front of the clinic, the prosecutor’s office said.
The office is also investigating Li’s sale of prescriptions to other patients, including nine individuals who suffered fatal drug overdoses since January 2009.
