Lawmakers Offering College Scholarships

Apply Now With Local Assembly Member

Assemblyman Mike Miller announced that he is accepting applications on behalf of the the New York Conference of Italian American State Legislators for four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded June 4 at their Annual Legislative Conference Day.

“Considering the high costs of a college education, the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators wanted to do its part to aid students,” said Miller. “Financing the education of our youth is an investment in our future.”

This year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding four $1,500 scholarships to four current or future college students from New York State. Eligibility will be based upon the student’s grade point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community as well as individual financial need.

Each conference member may nominate one student for the academic achievement scholarship and one student for the athletic scholarship.

The Conference is bipartisan organization of New York State Assembly and Senate members who are actively involved in promoting and celebrating the state’s Italian-American community. The conference mission is to work hard to elevate and highlight Italian-American contributions to the State of New York and beyond, in all aspects of society, including literature, the arts, architecture and politics.

The conference also tries to dispel negative stereotypes of Italian-Americans.

Applications will be provided to local high schools or can be picked up at Miller’s office at 83-91 Woodhaven Blvd. A digital application packet can be obtained by contacting Nicholas Roloson, chief of staff, by email at roloson @assembly.state.ny.us.

The applications must be submitted to Miller’s office no later than the close of business, 5 p.m, on Friday, Apr. 27. Nominated students will be notified the following week of their selection.
