For her efforts to save the life of a choking two-yearold girl, a Middle Village woman was honored with a community service award by the Juniper Park Civic Association (JPCA) at the organization’s Mar. 8 meeting at Our Lady of Hope School. As reported, Joanne Ruvolo, a local college student who works at Met Food supermarket on Eliot Avenue at 80th Street, was working at the store on Jan. 3 when she noticed the child choking in the store’s parking lot. Using the Heimlich maneuver, Ruvolo was able to clear the toddler’s obstructed airway; the girl made a recovery.
