State Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas (D-Astoria) said she and her husband of eight years, John Katsanos, are expecting their first child in July.
“I’m very excited,” Simotas said. “Obviously it’s going to be a big adjustment in our lives.”
The assemblywoman said she does not know if the baby will be a boy or a girl, although she hopes to find out soon.
Simotas was elected to the Assembly in 2010 after now-state Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria) left the seat. She said since both she and her husband, who works as an international tax consultant, have demanding jobs, they are expecting their families to assist after the baby is born.
“It’s wonderful to have family close by who can really help along the way,” Simotas said.
