A tiny tot with some big political ties helped gift a new state flag to the Reach For The STARS! First Step Program.

Arianna Addabbo, daughter of Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, suggested that her dad donate a new flag to the Howard Beach learning program she has been a part of since she was a baby, following an in-class discussion about the flag’s history. The program had received a United States flag several years ago from a former congressmember, but a New York state flag was absent.

The donation was prompted by the program’s current social studies curriculum — learning all about the state of New York. The burgeoning academics inquired about state symbols as well as where the New York flag came from.

Addabbo was happy to accommodate his daughter’s request and the children are excited about the addition to their classroom.
