With a single snip, the namesake of the Peter Cardella Senior Center cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the Ridgewood facility’s new extension during a ceremony last Thursday, Apr. 26. As shown, Peter Cardella, 95, had the honor of formally opening the renovated facility, which includes improvements to accommodate its growing number of senior citzens who visit daily for meals and activities. Looking on are (foreground, from left to right) City Council Member Diana Reyna; Constance DelVecchio Maltese, an artist who also presented a portrait of Cardella during the event; Joseph Ferreti, chairman of the Ridgewood Seniors Community Corporation, which operates the facility; Cardella Center Executive Director Barbara Toscano; Queens Borough President Helen Marshall; former State Sen. Serphin Maltese and Joseph Meccariello.
