Putting Their Best Feet Forward In Cancer Fight at M.v. Relay

Taking strides toward finding a cure for cancer, hundreds of people took part in the 10th Relay for Life at Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village which began last Saturday afternoon, June 23, and continued until the following morning. Co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Kiwanis Club of Glendale, Maspeth Federal Savings bank and California Pizza Kitchen at Atlas Park, teams of participants walked or ran laps around the Brennan Field running track to raise funds for cancer research and treatment. Dressed in purple shirts, those who are currently being treated for cancer or who have successfully fought the diseas led off the event by walking a “Survivors’ Lap” around the track, followed then by each team. Themed “A Decade of Hope” to mark the 10th anniversary of the event, some of the teams dressed in the style of their favorite decade. According to the ACS, over $170,000 was raised.
