Young Sunnyside Writer Wins Medals

Sunnyside resident Carly Sorenson recently won two awards in the 2012 National Scholastic Art & Writing Contest. The eighth-grader at the School of the Future struck gold for “V-Boulevard,” a short story about a girl who gets bullied. She also earned a silver medal for another narrative, “Hurricane Flood,” which tells the tale of a girl who gracefully deals with inclement weather and her parents’ dysfunctional marriage. Sorenson, who will attend Millennium High School in Downtown Manhattan next year, stated her next piece will probably be a comedy.
