Family and friends of the late Geraldine Ferraro gathered at the corner of Ascan Avenue and Austin Street in Forest Hills as a street was renamed in her honor on Sunday
For their contributions to the communities of Forest Hills and Rego Park, three individuals were presented with “Whitepot Awards” from Community Board 6 during the advisory body’s annual district service breakfast on July 31. Presented by Board 6 Chairperson Joseph Hennessy and District Manager Frank Gulluscio, the Whitepot Awards allude to the original name of the Forest Hills/Rego Park area given by its first settlers in 1653. This year’s awards were given to City Council Member Karen Koslowitz, the Parks Department’s Rene Herrera and Gene Burch of American Legion Continental Post 1424. Shown at the award presentation are (from left to right) Gulluscio, Herrera, Koslowitz, Burch and Hennessy.
