MANHATTAN — A Vietnam veteran who lives in a Long Island City shelter was allegedly attacked by a gang of eight young women on a No. 6 train Sunday, the New York Post reported.
Police said a 53-year-old man, who the Post has identified as Ralph Carnegary, had been stabbed in the left shoulder on a train heading downtown. When the incident occurred, they were near the 23rd Street and Park Avenue station on the Lexington Avenue lines.
Carnegary had been going to the World Trade Center site, where he works as a street vendor, and made a remark to his friend about a group of girls nearby, the Post reported.
“These girls must be retarded because they can’t even hear themselves think,” Carnegary said, the Post reported.
Police said the eight women allegedly attacked Carnegary, who ended up sustaining a stab wound to his left shoulder. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, police said.
Suspects include Queens residents Sha-steva Burdos, 17; Martha Bermudez, 17; and a 15-year-old whose name has not been released due to her juvenile status, police said. Other suspects include Bronx resident Michelle Rodriguez, 19; and Brooklyn residents 20-year-old Chanise Brown, 18-year-old Sheyla Figueroa, 17-year-old Starmeit Driggens and 20-year-old Kimberly Molina, police said.
