Movie Studio Employee Arrested After Cops Catch Special Delivery

A Williamsburg man working at Kaufman Astoria Studios received a special delivery at his job last Thursday, Sept. 6- two boxes containing a total of 10 pounds of marijuana, according to police.

Nine plastic bags of marijuana, contained in two plastic containers, were allegedly delivered in two cardboard boxes to an employee of Kaufman Astoria Studios last Thursday, Sept. 6. The recipient, Lowell Schulman of Williamsburg, was arrested later that day.

Lowell Schulman, 53, of Berry Street in Williamsburg, was arrested by the 114th Precinct at about 2:30 p.m. last Thursday after security staff intercepted the two boxes, allegedly sent from a California UPS facility.

He has been charged with felony criminal possession of marijuana and a total of 25 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the New York State Unified Court System database.

According to NYPD sources, the two boxes contained two plastic containers, which in turn contained a total of nine plastic pouches of pot, weighing about 10 lbs. in total.

When police arrived at the building in which Schulman worked, at 34-37 36th Ave. in Astoria, he admitted to officers that he was expecting the package but that he was expecting a smaller amount of pot, along with cologne and books.

Further investigation reportedly found that Schulman, an electrician, was also carrying five small plastic bags containing crack cocaine in his left pants pocket; furthermore, he was the subject of an open warrant for a 2006 motor vehicle violation.

Schulman was released on his own recognizance, according to court records; his next court date is Oct. 15.

An investigation into the incident, including the California address from which the package was sent, is ongoing, police noted.
