A young boy was the fatal victim of a fire that occurred Sunday morning in Belle Harbor, according to police.

Thomas Curly, 12, was caught in a fire around 3 a.m. at his home located on 122nd Street in Ocean Promenade Belle Harbor, Far Rockaway, police said. Following a 911 call responders found the boy unconscious and unresponsive.

Thomas was later taken to St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

Fire marshals on Twitter said the fire was an all-hands on deck situation.

Fire officials said the blaze was an accident caused by smoking, according to a tweet. The fire marshals also tweeted that the smoke alarm at the residence was not operational.

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro and Mayor Bill de Blasio jointly delivered a tweet for followers of the FDNY to visit fdnysmart.org/smoke-alarm to learn tips for keeping safe from a fire.

In response to the fatal fire, the Fire Department said it was holding a fire safety education informational until 9 p.m. Monday at the Stop & Shop at 112-15 Beach Channel Drive, which is about 13 minutes away from where the fire occurred.

The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death, according to police.
