Queens and every New York Mets fan is celebrating as Johan Santana has completed the first no-hitter in franchise history. In more than 8,000 games 36 Mets pitchers threw one-hitters.
Santana completed a magnificent performance on Friday, June 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals winning by a score of 8-0.
This game will live in infamy for all Mets fans who are still riding high on the recent announcement of the 2013 All Star Game taking place at Citi Field.
Santana threw 134 pitches and walked 5 in nine innings.
Queens native right fielder Mike Baxter made a diving catch against the left field wall suffering an injury to his shoulder and apparent concussion to save the n0-no in the seventh inning.
Making the victory even more sweet for Mets fans was that this was Carlos Beltran’s first return to Flushing.
“It was a crazy night,” said Santana at the post game press conference.
It certainly will be for Mets fans in Queens and beyond.
