Christ the King Regional High School’s Speech and Debate team recently bested a host of other high schools from across Brooklyn and Queens for the right to attend the state championship tournament in April. The Middle Village high school was the only school in the league that earned mentions in all four divisions: speech, student congress, public forum debate and Lincoln-Douglas debate. As noted, qualifiers were determined by placing in the top spots in each category; those who finished in the next two spots were selected as alternates. The Christ the King qualifiers included (in alphabetical order) Monica Cantos, Stephen Lebak, Dominick Mackocki, Ari Montero, Mya Pugh and Kevin Rodriguez. The alternates were (in alphabetical order) Stelios Phanartzis, Morgan Rudder, Krystal Salvati, Kristen Tulley and Sebastian Tuszakowski.
