A 75-year-old Elmhurst woman was hit and killed by a car a block from where she lived Sunday afternoon, police said.
Elba Granizo was struck near the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and 90th Street at about 1 p.m. and emergency responders on the scene took her to nearby Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead, the NYPD said in a statement.
Police said the driver of the vehicle that hit her had been making a left-hand turn from 90th Street onto Roosevelt Avenue, where Granizo was crossing the road. She lived a block away on Elmhurst Avenue, police said.
The driver remained at the scene of the accident and the investigation was ongoing, according to the NYPD.
On Monday morning, police had set up a checkpoint at the intersection.
