The sacrifices of former residents made in defense of the country were honored with a candlelight vigil at Maspeth Memorial Park on Monday night, May 20. Organized by the United Veterans and Fraternal Organizations in Maspeth, numerous local veterans and residents gathered at the park a week before Memorial Day to offer prayers and praise for soldiers who died in combat.
