Flames engulfed a Forest Hills garage belonging to the city Department of Transportation during a two-alarm fire last Thursday morning, Jan. 23, it was reported. According to Fire Department sources, the blaze ignited at about 5 a.m. at the facility located at 69-46 Sybilla St., near 70th Avenue. Due to the heavy fire and the roof’s construction, firefighters were forced to battle the blaze from outside the location, it was reported. Their effort was reportedly complicated because nearby fire hydrants were frozen due to the extreme cold. As a result, firefighters set up water lines that stretched from Metropolitan Avenue, about two blocks to the north of the garage. Nearly 20 Fire Department units responded to the inferno along with the 112th Precinct and EMS units. There were no reported injuries. Firefighters eventually got the inferno under control at about 7:38 a.m., sources stated.
