Fans ‘come Together’ for 50 Years of Beatlemania

Residents of all ages and walks of life took some time this past weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to the United States. The pioneer rock group touched down at John F. Kennedy Airport on Feb. 7, 1964-signalling the beginning of the “British Invasion” and opening America’s doors for countless British pop acts to follow. The photos at left and top-left show Liverpool (a beatles cover band) celebrating the real Fab Four’s arrival at JFK last Friday, Feb. 7. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey also unveiled a commemorative plaque created to mark the Beatles’ arrival 50 years ago. Above, screenwriter and director Celeste Balducci (second from right) screened her film The Lovely Lilly at Elmhurst Hospital last Sunday, Feb. 9. The film is set in Jackson Heights in the days immediately following the Beatles’ arrival in New York City. The Edward R. Miller VFW Post #7336 also celebrated the golden anniversary of Beatlemania by holding a “60s Love Fest” at the American Legion Hall 1815 in Glendale (pictured below). More than 80 people came dressed as hippies and flower children, enjoying food, games, prizes and fun.
