Glendale Man Killed In Bk. Hit-And-Run
Detectives continue to seek the hit-and-run driver who killed a bicyclist from Glendale at an intersection on the Bushwick/Bedford-Stuyvesant border last Wednesday morning, Apr. 9, police reported.
Law enforcement sources said Angel Torres, 46, of Myrtle Avenue suffered fatal injuries after being hit by an SUV at the corner of Broadway and Halsey Street at about 7:50 a.m. last Wednesday morning.
According to information obtained by police, Torres was pedaling through the intersection when he was struck by a 2014 BMW traveling east on Broadway and operated by an unidentified man.
Reportedly, the driver hit an unoccupied parked car after striking Torres, then turned southbound onto Thomas Boyland Street. Seconds later, authorities noted, the SUV slammed into a 2000 Toyota 4- Runner as it pulled out of a driveway onto Thomas Boyland Street near Chauncey Street.
The hit-and-run driver then exited the BMW and fled on foot in an unknown direction, authorities said.
Members of the 73rd Precinct and EMS units responded to the incidents. Paramedics rushed Torres to Woodhull Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The occupants of the Toyota 4- Runner were also taken by EMS to Woodhull Hospital for treatment of their injuries, which were not lifethreatening.
The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry, according to police.
