Police were looking for a suspect whogot in a shoot out with police in Elmhurst early Saturday morning, the NYPD said.
An NYPD sergeant and officer were responding to a report of a group of men trespassing at a residential building on Lamont Avenue at 1:47 a.m., when they witnessed the suspect chasing another man with a gun and shooting at him, police said.
When the sergeant and officer got out of their car and ordered the man to drop his gun, the suspect shot at them and missed, according to cops.
The police returned fire as the suspect, who they described as Hispanic, 5-foot-6, and with a medium build, took off on foot, the NYPD said.
Police said they recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun from the scene.
