Furnishing a Name for Himself In Ridgewood

BJ Nicols furniture on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood is owned and operated by a former salesman that was able to open his own store in the neighborhood in 2008.

BJ Nicols owner Jonny Cajahuaringa outside the store at 59-34 Myrtle Ave. in Ridgewood.

Jonny Cajahuaringa worked as a salesman at a store that operated in Maspeth, also named BJ Nicols for 12 years. When he opened his own store in 2008, he decided to keep the name because of its reputation in the area for service and quality.

“So I had an opportunity to open my own store,” he said.

He first opened in Ridgewood in May, 2008, but has only been in the current location at 59-34 Myrtle Ave. for the last four months, he said.

Cajahauringa said business was “hard at first, but with good community outreach,” improved quickly.

He believes that providing “customer service and research on what the neighborhood was in need of,” spelled success for the business.

BJ Nicols sells mattress, lamps, frame beds, chairs, tables, loveseats, sofas and more. The store offers free delivery on items, free repairs, layaway, and a senior discount.

“We offer quality products, good prices, and customer service with a smile,” Cajahuaringa said.

He personally deals with vendors to select quality products.

“I select my own furniture. I don’t like to sell that garbage furniture,” he said.

The business is doing well at the location, but Cajahuaringa said he would like to expand to other neighborhoods as well.
