Hundreds of volunteers laced up their walking shoes to help fight blood cancers during the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night Walk” through Forest Park last Saturday night, Sept. 20. Teams of participants-including family members, friends, co-workers and cancer survivors-took a two-mile journey through the park raising funds for cancer research and treatment. The walkers carried balloons colored red for supporters, white for cancer survivors and gold in memory of someone who lost their battle with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. As of press time, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raised $175,000 in donations, but collections continue to be counted and donations are still being accepted.
