On the first day of the school year, which was also the launch of the city’s Universal Pre-K program, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz welcomed the students in attendance and expressed her wish that all of the city’s children have a wonderful school year. Katz, at right, was joined Mayor Bill de Blasio, First Lady Chirlane McCray, Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina, second from right, and some of the city’s youngest students at the Home Sweet Home prekindergarten in Fresh Meadows on Thursday, Sept. 4.
