Briarwood- The mother of a 4-year-old girl found dead Thursday in a Briarwood shelter was arrested Friday and charged with her murder, police said.
Latoya Curry, 35, faces second degree murder charges for allegedly beating her daughter to death for spilling lotion, said the authorities.
“This is a very disturbing case,” said Richard Brown, the Queens District Attorney. “The defendant allegedly became angry when the girl spilled lotion and struck her in the face and stomach. The woman then allegedly threw the child against a wall.”
The NYPD said the arrest of Curry came after the Medical Examiner’s office declared Linayjah Meraldo’s death a homicide.
According to the criminal complaint, Curry allegedly became angry when she saw Linayjah, “squirting hand lotion cream on the kitchen floor.”
The incident occurred in the Briarwood Family Residence Thursday.
The Medical Examiner’s office determined the girl died, “of blunt force trauma to her torso.”
