Celebrating the Holidays In Style

Children of all ages got into a festive mood at a variety of holiday tree lightings and other celebrations held in recent days across the Times Newsweekly’s coverage area. As shown in Photo 1, Santa Claus dropped by Middle Village’s Mooney’s Public House last Saturday, Dec. 6, for a photo session with local kids; his trip was made possible by Eliot Hill Realty. Members of the St. Matthias Children’s Choir are shown in Photo 2 entertaining Ridgewood residents with their rendition of favorite holiday tunes during the Ridgewood Property Owners and Civic Association’s concert and tree lighting last Thursday, Dec. 4, at I.S. 93. Showers couldn’t keep young dancers from Song and a Dance in Maspeth (Photo 3) from delighting hundreds during the Maspeth Chamber of Commerce’s tree lighting last Friday night, Dec. 5, at Maspeth Memorial Park. Special needs students from P.S. 88 in Ridgewood traveled to the Parks Department’s Oak Ridge headquarters last Friday to hear the tale of Frosty the Snowman, as shown in Photo 4. City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley co-sponsored the performance. Last Friday’s rain didn’t put a damper on the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation’s annual Christmas tree and Hanukkah menorah lighting. Members of the corporation and the 102nd Precinct are pictured in Photo 5 at the ceremony. Finally, as shown in Photo 6, hundreds gathered at the Glendale Memorial Triangle on Sunday night, Dec. 7, to enjoy the annual Christmas tree lighting sponsored by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce.
