E. Elmhurst man charged in kidnapping of ex-girlfriend: NYPD

By Bill Parry

An East Elmhurst man was arrested in the violent abduction of his 18-year-old former girlfriend Saturday, according to the NYPD. When officers from the 115th Precinct responded to a 911 call of a dispute in front of 32-65 81st St. they were informed by witnesses that a young woman was approached by Jonathan Coronel, a 21-year-old Hispanic man, and forced into a light colored vehicle at knife point, investigators say.

Coronel then drove eastbound on Northern Boulevard with the victim in the back seat. Nine hours later the victim was dropped off at the corner of 82nd Street and Astoria Boulevard, five blocks from her home.

Coronel was found with a self-inflicted stab wound and taken into custody at 88th Street and 24th Avenue. The suspect was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he is listed in stable condition.

Coronel is charged with rape, kidnapping, criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful imprisonment and criminal contempt.

Meanwhile, just down the street from Elmhurst Hospital Center, police from the 110th Precinct, responding to a 911 call of an unconscious man inside of 82-12 Pettit Ave., discovered the body of a 66-year-old man lying face up on a bed. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the man deceased at the scene, according to police.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing. The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.
