A Flushing man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend and stashing her body in the trunk of her own car was arraigned Tuesday on a second-degree murder charge, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
Luis Zambrano, 30, of 150th Street in Flushing was arraigned on 15 counts including second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny, unauthorized used of a vehicle, attempted petit larceny and intimidating a victim or witness.
Authorities say that Zambrano allegedly stabbed Angie Escobar, 28, of Queens Village, multiple times with scissors on for trying to end her relationship with him on Sept. 6. Her family reported her missing a few days afterward.
Escobar’s body was bloody and had multiple stab wounds to the torso when it was found decomposing in her own abandoned Nissan Maxima in Whitestone on Sept. 10.
Zambrano was reportedly last seen driving the vehicle in close proximity to his Flushing residence before he was apprehended a week later while on the run from authorities in Daleville, Virginia.
According to Brown, the victim was the mother of two children.
“This is a tragic case,” Brown said. “Two little boys will never hear the sound of their mother’s voice again. They’ll never feel her embrace or see her smile.”
Zambrano faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted and is being held without bail until his next court date on Feb. 3, 2016.
