Records were made to be broken, and the LaGuardia Community College (LAGCC) Lady Red Hawks broke two team single-game records during their 103-57 drubbing of Dutchess Community College Falcons on Monday.
The team’s 103 points marks the first time the team has ever eclipsed the 100-point plateau in a single game, and the 46-point margin of victory is the largest in the program’s three-year history, breaking the previous record of 42 points set against Kingsborough last season.
The game was never in question as the Lady Red Hawks jumped out to an early lead, ending the first quarter with a 30-13 lead. LAGCC held Dutchess Community College to 18 points or fewer in all four quarters, while they were able to score no less than 18 points in each quarter.
Briana Johnson, who recently returned to the team after a neck injury, scored a game-high 29 points coming off the bench. Kailyn Richburg added 22 points and eight assists while Sarah Edwards posted another double-double, dropping 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Marika Gordon also registered her third straight double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 boards.
The Lady Red Hawks are now 3-0 on the young season and will look to continue their winning was when they face the Queensborough Tigers Thursday night at 7 p.m. at LAGCC.
