With the holiday season fast approaching, state Senator Joseph Addabbo is partnering with Sacred Heart Church in Glendale to hold a food drive to collect items for those in need.
Now through Thanksgiving, Addabbo and Sacred Heart will be collecting nonperishable food items to donate to the church’s food bank. The donated items will be used to serve Thanksgiving dinner to people in the community.
“Everyone should have the opportunity to have a holiday dinner on Thanksgiving, and this food drive will go a long way toward making that a reality for those who may need help doing so,” Addabbo said. “There is no better time of year than the holiday season to help out a fellow New Yorker, and this is a simple act of kindness that will mean the world to the recipient on the other end. I am proud to partner with Sacred Heart for this wonderful cause and look forward to continuing this food drive in the future.”
Items in need include canned goods, cereals, boxed goods, rice, canned soups and stews, pasta, pasta sauce, tuna, mayonnaise, peanut butter, jelly, powdered milk, juices and more. The drive is also accepting items such as toiletries and storage bags.
“We want to thank Senator Addabbo and his staff for helping Sacred Heart Food Pantry once again. Our needs are great here, especially this time of year,” said Nancy Baer, secretary for Sacred Heart Parish Ministry. “This pantry helps approximately 150 families from the Glendale and Ridgewood area. Many residents need assistance with food as the cost of housing and utilities rise. We are so grateful for the continuous generosity shown by our parishioners and residents of these neighborhoods.”
Those interested in making a donation to the food drive may drop off items at Addabbo’s Middle Village Office, located at 66-85 73rd Pl., during regular business hours or at the Sacred Heart Parish Ministry, located at 77-05 84th St. on the corner of 77th Avenue between 84th and 85th streets.
