Actor and “Ray Donovan” star Liev Schreiber was in Glendale on Tuesday afternoon to film scenes from his upcoming movie “The Bleeder.”

Schreiber stars as New Jersey liquor salesman turned journeyman heavyweight underdog boxer Chuck Wepner, who rose to fame at age 35 after his 1975 title fight with boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Wepner, nicknamed “The Bayonne Bleeder,” was defeated in the 19th round of the match after becoming only the third man to be able to knock down Ali. Wepner went on to sue Sylvester Stallone, claiming the movie “Rocky” was based on his life. The matter was later settled out of court.

Schreiber sported a vintage 1970s leather jacket, mustache and fake bruises while filming interior scenes for the biopic at The Assembly Bar on Cooper Avenue on Tuesday. Vintage cars lined the street while fake boxing posters depicting Schreiber as Wepner were posted in the front windows of a Cooper Avenue home for the filming. Makeup artists touched up Schrieber’s special effects bruise makeup between takes.

“Mad Men” star Elizabeth Moss stars as Wepner’s second wife Phyliss, while Schreiber’s real-life wife, Naomi Watts, stars as Wepner’s third wife Linda. Schreiber was joined on set by “Billions” star Ivan Martin and Troma horror film scream queen Catherine Corcoran.
