March may have come in like a lamb, but the Queens events heading into the first weekend and beyond are anything but meek and unassuming. Don’t let the name fool you; “Quiet Clubbing” is anything but, what with three DJs, spinning their signature stylings into headphones that you control. It’s an all-together wild and unique experience and a great option to kick off a weekend full of fun, including bubble-blower workshops, trivia contests and vinyl record shows.
Friday, March 4
1. Nuyorican culture and history discussion
When: Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Ave., Astoria
Immerse yourself in a fascinating discussion of Nuyorican culture and history at the Museum of the Moving Image. “Nuyorican Cinema: Framing Identity” features a prominent lineup of filmmakers, content creators and curators, as they explore New York’s wealth of Puerto Rican filmmakers, writers and actors, the sociological and political challenges they’ve faced as a community and how it has shaped their work. Moderated by Edwin Pagán.
2. 9th Annual Panorama Challenge
When: Friday, March 4, from 7 – 10 p.m.
Where: Queens Museum, New York City Building in Flushing Meadows
The Queens Museum’s famous NYC panorama exhibit holds its 9th annual Bacchanalia of Big Apple trivia, utilizing clues from the miniature Gotham display along with musical hints. Hosted by Mike Morgenthal, all proceeds from this popular event will support the City Reliquary Museum and Queens Museum and the winning team will have their names etched onto the Panorama Challenge Trophy. Admission is $15 per person or discounted with the purchase of a membership to the City Reliquary Museum or Queens Museum.

Tired of the typical clubbing experience? Are your ears still ringing from last weekend? Studio Square NYC presents “Quiet Clubbing” at the indoor Studio Square Beer Garden, a unique experience, featuring three separate DJs spinning at the same time, with patrons toggling from one to another using the the switch on the headphones provided to them upon admission. The event is 21+ with a $5 cover charge before midnight and $15 cover thereafter. A valid credit or debit card is required for admission. If headphones are not returned upon departure there will be a $100 charge to your card.
4. Smashworks Dance Collective and Roots in Revolution
When: Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m.
Where: Green Space Studio, 37-24 24th St. in Long Island City
See the amazing interpretive dancing of Smashworks Dance Collective and Roots in Revolution, as they explore gender inequality, feminine identity and what it means to be “whole” as a woman in American. Admission is $15.

Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd. in Flushing
The celebrated musical trio from the Great White North will play their signature stylings on traditional Quebecois music, following a 7 p.m. dance lesson. Admission is $16 for members and $10 for students. Folkwords says of the group: “They have enough power to drive a nuclear furnace. If you could remain seated during their performance you were either dead-drunk or dead.” R2 Magazine praises, “Driven by the relentless foot percussion, this set of tunes rocks!”
2. The Barneys of Flushing Meadow
When: Saturday, March 5, at 2 p.m.
Where: Bayside Historical Society, 208 Totten Ave., Bayside
Enjoy a fascinating exploration of Stephen R. Barney Jr., as he hosts a presentation and signing of his book, which traces the genealogy of his family in Flushing Meadows all the way back to the late 1700s. Admission is $5 for non-members and free for Bayside Historical Society members.
3. Young Chefs – Pepperoni Roll-Ups and Fruit Smoothie
When: Saturday, March 5, at 1:30 p.m.
Where: Alley Pond Environmental Center, 228-06 Northern Blvd., Little Neck.
Bring your young aspiring chefs to this youth cooking class to teach kids how to prepare pepperoni roll-ups–filled with cheese and herbs–along with fruit smoothies. Limited to eight participants, so register today on the center’s website! The registration fee is $18 for members and $24 for non-members.

St. Francis DeSales Church in the Rockaways will kick off the 41st annual St. Patrick’s Day parade with a Mass for peace and justice in Ireland at 9:30 p.m. with the actual parade beginning at 1 p.m. sharp starting from Beach 130th Street and up Newport Ave. before ending by the St. Camillus parking lot on 100th Street where there will be a parade awards ceremony with trophies for honorees and winners. 1. Learn how to make a bubble blower
When: Sunday, March 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Where: New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th St., Corona
Take the kids to learn how to make a bubble-blower from everyday objects and recycled materials. The workshop admission is $8 per family in addition to New York Hall of Science entry fees. Discounts of $5 per family are available to members. Be sure to wear old clothes you don’t mind getting messy.
2. Irish and African-American dance workshop
When: Sunday, March 6, at 2:15 p.m.
Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing
Niall O’Leary of the Irish School of Dance and Lenwood Sloan, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s former director of Arts, Culture and Tourism, will host a dance workshop, entitled “The Cultural Crossroads of Ireland & Africa,” which will explore the cultural intersections of Irish and African-American dance. General admission is $7; $4 for members. Members must call box office and reserve tickets to attend workshop.
3. Con Brio Ensemble performance
When: Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m.
Where: Voelker-Orth Museum, 149-19 38th Ave., Flushing
Celebrating their 37th season, the Con Brio Ensemble return for an afternoon of chamber music; a veritable musical bouquet, deftly presented, featuring Diana Mittler-Battipaglia (piano), Alexander Meshibovsky (violin), Alan Hollander (oboe) and Osceola Davis (soprano), performing works by Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, Defalla and more. Light refreshments served. Admission $12 and $10 for members and students.
4. Vinyl Revolution Record Show

NYC’s oldest beer garden presents the Vinyl Revolution Record Show, featuring an all-day set by DJ Laura Rebel Angel and 55 different vendor tables selling thousands of rare collectible vinyl records. Admission is $3. Early admission is available for $5.

1. Tribute to Czech chamber music composer Bohuslav Martinů

Violinist Miroslav Hristov, violist Yuri Gandelsman and pianist Vladimir Valjarevic perform this moving tribute in the Kurzweil Recital Hall (room H144 in the Humanities Building). All three performers have performed to critical acclaim across the globe and have had their work distributed through labels such as Sony, Naxos, Centaur and Melodiya. Admission is free.
