He wasted the Fire Department’s valuable time, so now he’s set to do time.
A Briarwood man was arrested this week for allegedly making dozens of phony emergency calls to his apartment building over a two-month period, according to fire marshals.
Kenneth Campbell, 47, allegedly made 36 phony reports of gas leaks, electrical fires, bomb scares and medical emergencies to apartments in his building on 135th Street near Hoover Avenue dating back to February of this year.
Each call resulted in large responses from the Fire Department and various other agencies including the NYPD and utility companies.
Fire marshals, with the assistance of the Queens District Attorney’s office, arrested Campbell as a result of an investigation into the false alarms. He is currently awaiting arraignment on charges of making terroristic threats, falsely reporting an incident and aggravated harassment.
“Reporting a false alarm is a senseless crime which deliberately wastes department resources and needlessly puts the lives of New Yorkers and FDNY members at risk,” Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said in a statement. “I applaud the investigative work of our Fire Marshals to track down and apprehend the individual responsible for these malicious and dangerous fictitious incidents.”
